MathEX Equation Editor for Java

The Integre MathEX Equation Editor for Java is a standalone Java application and a Java applet component for people who want to create and publish mathematical expressions using the W3C Mathematical Markup Language (MathML).

Both the application edition and the component edition of the editor support both content and presentation elements from MathML, allowing you to interact with the visual presentation of an expression, while simultaneously creating the underlying content structure of the expression. Both the presentation and the content can be exported to other components using a variety of means, allowing the editor to be incorporated into mathematical applications developed using a number of technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, and other Java applets.

techexplorer Hypermedia Browser

The Integre techexplorer Hypermedia Browser is a web browser plug-in, ActiveX control and Internet Explorer behavior for people who read or publish scientific articles, books, journals, courseware, or other technical materials on the Internet.

Integre techexplorer can be used in concert with applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel. techexplorer dynamically formats and displays documents containing scientific and mathematical expressions that are coded with the popular TeX and LaTeX markup languages, as well as those using the W3C Mathematical Markup Language (MathML).

MathQuery—the Mathematical Query Language

MathQuery: Improving Computer-Based Mathematics Assessment Using XML

This SBIR Phase I project seeks to determine the feasibility of creating a radically new method for analyzing and evaluating free-form student responses within computer-based assessment and tutorial systems for mathematics. Dubbed MathQuery, this method will allow a computer-based system to compare the structure of a student’s response to a problem against a rule set that characterizes how the problem can be solved, thereby identifying precisely how a student formulated the response and what errors may be present.

The MathQuery project development is sponsored by the National Science Foundation under NSF grant DMI 03-40418.

MathDL—the Mathematics Digital Library

techexplorer and MathDL: Robust Support for Dynamic Web-based Mathematics

A major obstacle facing the National Sciences Digital Library (NSDL) is lack of support for the rendering and manipulation of mathematics in web browsers. This project will address that shortcoming by continuing the development of Integre techexplorer, a cross-platform, cross-browser plug-in originally developed by IBM Research that renders mathematics written in either MathML or TEX markup. Dynamic mathematical expressions are supported using techexplorer’s application programming interfaces (APIs). With further development, techexplorer will also provide consistent cross-platform browser support for wysiwig equation editing and document annotation, making techexplorer a robust development and delivery environment for interactive mathematical content and web services.
